Looking back on a great Summer Academy in France

The last week of June, Heliosfero organized a summer academy in France for young professionals. Six current or recently graduated students at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague had the opportunity to immerse themselves in early music for a week under the direction of Rebecca Huber. Location of this summer academy: Villa Fanély, a beautifully converted farmhouse in the French village of Lentigny.

In cooperation with Jean-Marie Gardette, artistic director and coordinator of Tisseurs de Sons, an intensive week was organized, with attention to ensemble playing as well as individual development.

The following pieces were on the program:

  • Vivaldi L’Olympiade Overture RV 725 Sinfonia – 5’
  • Phillip Glass String quartet No. 2 “Company”
  • Geminiani H. 119Op. 7 Concerto grosso in c minor – 8”
  • JS Bach BWV1056 f minor concerto for solo harpsichord and strings
  • Boccherini string quintet movement in C Major, Op. 25, No. 4
  • CPE string symphony in E Minor, H. 652, Wq 177
  • Praetorius dances
  • “Les sauvages” from Rameau, Corette version for strings

This inspiring week ended with two concerts: the first was held in a local wood factory and was specifically aimed at audiences who don’t normally attend classical concerts, the second took place in the attractive little church of Lentigny.

We eagerly look forward to repeating this inspiring week next year!

The Heliosfero Summer Academy 2024 was made possible by financial support from the Adriana Jacoba Fund and Tisseurs de Sons.
