Takako Kunugi is a very active bassoonist, working in Europe. She plays almost ten different types of bassoons from the 16th to 19th centuries, all historical instruments from her own collection. She plays in several orchestras and her repertoire includes opera, chamber music and musical theater.

Takako was born in Japan and began her studies of modern bassoon at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. After graduation, she discovered the baroque bassoon and historically informed performance practice. In 2000 she was the winner of the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Debut Concert Competition for woodwinds and performed with a number of orchestras in Japan. After Takako moved to Amsterdam, she studied with Ronald Karten and Benny Aghassi at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2011 she obtained cum laude her Master’s degree and a year later her Bachelor’s degree in baroque bassoon.

Takako performs regularly as a solo bassoonist with some of the world’s leading musicians, orchestras and ensembles.
